Let’s face it: the old Web Surveys Builder got the job done and allowed you to run web surveys. However, we all knew it could do with a bit of revamp and optimization. 🤭
There comes a time when each digital product needs to be refreshed, or sometimes even built from scratch. Here at Survicate we heard your feedback and decided to tackle the formidable task of entirely reworking the Web Surveys Builder. The Old Builder had been around since 2014, and it felt like a good time to make the change.
So, ten months and 65 000 cups of coffee later (that’s enough to fill a small lake!), the New Builder is finally live. 🚀

What makes the New Builder better

A tour around the New Web Surveys Builder
Now that you know what has changed for the better, let me take you on a guided tour around creating website surveys with the New Builder.
The New Builder is divided into four tabs:
The main navigation is distraction-free. At the top, you can work your way through creating a survey, all the way to launching it.
Let’s deep dive into the different tabs and steps of creating a web survey with the New Builder.
The Create Tab consists of three subsections, with the first one being Questions. This is where you add questions and set up survey skip logic, which means deciding what question or action a respondent sees next based on how they answered the previous question. Skip logic is also called routing or branching, but in essence, they all mean the same thing.
The most exciting improvement is that you can now preview a question type before adding it! You can tell at a glance if a specific question type fits your survey, or you’re better off using a different one.
Previewing questions was not possible with the Old Builder. It’s been one of the most frequent feature requests, so it’s great to see it shipped!
It’s fair to say that you can now create web surveys quicker than ever. You don’t have to hit the ‘Save’ button upon each change anymore.
The second subsection in the Create tab is Themes where you can choose from endless design options to make sure the look and feel of your surveys is just as you need. You can even use custom CSS and create highly customizable themes by changing the font, location of buttons, and more.
The most massive improvement is that you can test various survey themes in a single click. Also, you no longer have to jump between the different tabs to preview a survey, as was the case with the Old Builder. Each design change will now appear live on the preview.
The last section of the Create Tab is Settings where you can remove the Survicate branding, change survey position, and more.

Use the settings in the Target tab to show web surveys to the visitors or users that really matter. You rarely need to display a specific survey to your entire audience. As a rule, it’s worth running surveys only on a selected portion of users or visitors, so you can get the most relevant answers possible.
As an example, if you’re looking to ask for pricing feedback of those who visited your pricing page multiple times but didn’t make a purchase, it’s advisable to display a survey to returning visitors, and only on your pricing page. Otherwise, your results could be skewed!
You need to capture insights in real-time while users are interacting with your website or product, and when they perform specific actions. The available targeting options include:
- Where visitors/users are: display on all pages, display on specific pages, domains, subdomains, regex – The Triggers Section
- When surveys appear: exit intent, visit duration, scroll progress, even-triggered, and more – The Triggers Section
- Who visitors/users are: users’ custom attributes, sampling, traffic source, location, logged in status, device, cookies, and more – The Audience Section
- Surveys frequency: automated recurring surveys, display once per visit, once per visitor – The Frequency Section
Here’s how the new Target tab is better that of the Old Builder, and what’s the added value to you:
- You can filter audiences by excluding groups of users or visitors
- You can target surveys by multiple custom attributes and multiple cookies
- You can target surveys by multiple languages
- You can choose from a pre-generated list of user custom attributes
- You have clear visibility into your audiences with the help of filters summary
- You get to see if a specific audience is used by other surveys
- You can better understand audience filtering thanks to OR and AND separators

Survicate offers a wide choice of over 18 native integrations with CRM, Marketing Automation, Collaboration and Website Optimization tools. All that so you can send survey responses to the tools you already use and trigger custom workflows based on the feedback you get from users.
Below you can find all the tools Survicate integrates with. I know, that’s a long list. However, I wanted you to be aware of all the integrations so you don’t miss out on anything:

If your tool is not on the list, you can always use Zapier or Webhooks to connect custom integrations.
The biggest advantage over the Old Builder is that you can connect integrations right when creating a survey. You don’t have to switch tabs anymore which makes for a far slicker UX.
In the Connect tab, you can send survey responses where you need them most and act on insights with personalized workflows.
To make things easier, configuring integrations is now outcome-based, which means there’s no need to perform unnecessary steps.
If you need to send survey responses to an external tool as attributes, just select the Attributes tab. Similarly, if you want to send survey answers as tags, pick the Tags tab instead.
In other words, you can pick the most convenient option of sending survey data to your favorite tool, set it and forget it. 🔥

Remember: customer feedback is only as useful as you make it. You can truly capitalize on customer feedback only when you take action after receiving it!
As an example, when you get a high CSAT or NPS score, it’s a great idea to ask a user for a positive review, testimonial or case study.
Conversely, if a specific user’s experience was less than perfect, you should make your team aware of it so you can improve the customer journey together. A common use case is sending survey responses to Slack and tagging the relevant people from your company to take action.
These are just a few out of the many workflows you could implement at your company. This way, you’ll make sure that no piece of feedback ever goes unheard. Your customers, on the other hand, will feel heard and valued.
